William Bottrell was the most renowned of all Cornish folklorists. Although his family wanted him to be a farmer, he pursued a teaching career, returning to Cornwall later in his life. It was in
Penzance that he compiled his famous collections of folk tales from the lips of the old “droll tellers.” The present play presents a variety of his most humorous and outrageous tales for the modern audience. Originally devised as a one man play, “Mr Bottrell’s Amazing Tales” restores the roughness and immediacy of the original Cornish dialect. A rich and riotous collection.
